Who here has aches and pains? Pretty much everyone to be honest whether intentional or not. A little anatomy lesson ,a "KNOT", consists of the multiple/various muscle fibers that start to stick to each other vs gliding against each other. Our beautiful complex muscles have a fibrous connective tissue called Fascia which encases thousand of layers of muscle in the body. When Fascia becomes "sticky" this " knot" can not only be a nuisance for everyday activities but can also become quite painful. In a healthy state, fascia, allows the muscles to flow/move like water if you will. Now if we didn't have some tension in the body we would all be giant piles of goo. No one wants that...so what do you do? This will sound very simplified but it's imperative to move your body, hydrate and get therapeutic work/massage done.
I was having a yoga class, that I absolutely adore, called Yoga for Stiff People at the wonderful Yoga Bungalow in San Juan Capistrano. The owner Tam worked through my "knots" in my calves through the power of yoga balls. My jaw hit the floor, I couldn't believe how deep the work was and how effective MY massage therapist was....if I did my homework which is foam rolling. Sounds simple but true....I'm going to have a moment of vulnerability but my diet had a HUGE effect on my muscles. Had to give up caffeine which sucked but I feel so much better. Incorporating health and wellness in your daily practice , hydrating and movement can not be stressed enough. I would love to hear your stories!
Wishing you health and wellness and in my nerdy ways, " Live Long and Proper",
